2014
See what happened at club nights in 2014
Next Club Night is January 27th.
Well that's it for another year, no more club nights for 2014 hasn't it been a busy year.
We had two new faces at this meeting, Mark Shearer though he's probably known by quite a few of you he's moving dove from Cumbria. The other new face was Stuarts dad though sorry I didn't get his name.
A couple of members had been to the bike show at the NEC and reported that it was a good show with plenty to see and there were plenty of traders though not so many bargains to be had this time - maybe a sign of the times, traders can't afford to sell things off cheaply or maybe the economy is picking up and they don't need to sell things off as cheaply.
Remember there is no club night in December - but we are having a night out in Manchester in December. We refer to it at the Hard Rock night but we end up only meeting at the Hard Rock in the Print Works. Due to the numbers that turn up the Hard Rock can never accommodate us until the end of the night, so, we now eat at Chiquito's just round the corner, still in the Print Works. Meeting time is 7:30 at the Hard Rock unless you'd like to have a couple of beers earlier on. This year Helen & I will be having to stay over in Manchester so we'll be there early, in previous years us, Barry along with Tony Bailey & Becky have met up and visited a couple of pubs before hand so if you'd like to join us please do. We usually meet at the Wellington its the black & white pub that was relocated after the restructuring of Manchester - head for the wheel at the back of M&S on market street.
As for events there is the Chalet Rally in the new year so far no one has booked to go.
Kulture Kriuse please let Barry know if you are interested in going, he needs numbers so he can book the accommodation he needs to do this in January so can all get in.
Faaker See again please register your inerest so Barry has some numbers to get prices, this one is a club ride. There are options to stay longer if you wish bit if we all GO together we'll get better ferry prices.
The Super Rally following Wallace there is a free stop over at Squires where gunlaw are providing the entertainment.
See the diary page for up coming events.
We had a special award this evening, made to Adrian for passing the IAM advanced riding test.
This months quiz winners were also led by Adrian.
And the raffle winners are:
Don't forget there's no meeting in December.!
The next meeting will be January 27th.

October Club night and the AGM
Where's that gone then? Its a whole year since we had the AGM I'm sure its going faster each year!
Thanks to everyone that turned up and made it a successful night. Last year we had a surprise when Dave, Lizzy & Tony from Gloucester drove up just for the AGM, this year one of our members went one step further, Ron flew in from Holland just for the AGM - you're a crazy madman.
The agenda for the night followed the same as last year. I won't go into all the details but the main points are we have a change to the committee. Nigel decided that he'd had enough of taking your pictures especially when you're steaming drunk so has hung up his camera for a rest. Thanks for the past 12 months Nigel without your photo's I wouldn't have anything to put on the website I'm not sure what will happen now! Hold on is that the Lark I can hear? Mr Ken Vickery stepped up to the mark and is stepping into the breech, though his camera isn't as big as Nige's.
Before the old committee were disbanded they gave reports:
Monty - Riding
Mal - Events
Kev - Editorial
Steve - Website
Safety - Chris
Jon - Financial Report & Accounts
Chris - Rainy Daze 11/12
Member's in attendance then voted.
Your new committee is:
President - Barry Dunnett
Treasurer - Jon Dailey
Secretary - Helen Moran
Events Officer - Mal Hyslop
Editor - Kev Carroll
Webmaster - Steve Cannavan
Historian - Adrian Leach
Safety Officer - Chris MacDonald
Road Captain - Jon 'Monty' Montgomery
Photographer - Ken Vickery
Non Portfolio - Michael Hulme
Non Portfolio - Bill Malley
Please join me in wishing the new committee the best of luck.

The club member of the year as voted for by you was Barry. Well done for all your hard work a well deserved award but don't let off now Barry the club still needs your enthusiasm.
Members draw was won by Alex Kerrigan and the prize this year was a £100 voucher to spend at Harleyworld in Chesterfield. Thanks to the guys at Harleyworld for sponsoring the prize this year.
At this meeting there were some other awards - for membership or more precisely for number of years a member. Last year we introduced a year bar to go along with the new club pin, the bars go up in 5 year increments. So the awards are:
Raffle prizes were won by Nick Jackson, Martin McBride & Angela Hulme
September Club Night
Another good turn out not quite as good as August but hey we're now officially in autumn.
A big chunk of tonight's chat was based around this weekend because its the Run to the Wall. So far there are 401 bikes registered to leave from Knutsford services and at the second of our pick up points Sandbach services there are 74 bikes registered, as those of you that have been on the RTTW before you'll know a lot more that haven't registered can turn up swelling the numbers.
For those that are marshalling this year please be at Knutsford services SOUTH BOUND or Sandbach services SOUTH BOUND at 8-8:30am (earlier the better) this Saturday 4th Oct. For marshals if you want to join the marshal's ride in make your own way to Drayton Manor once the main ride has got to the Arboretum.
For those not going to the RTTW Manchester is hosting the Red Bull Challenge which is trials riding over trams and other stuff very skilled riding.
For events if anyone wants to go to the Halloween chalet rally at Southport there are still ticket available but you need to get your booking form in sharpish. The Staffs classic bike show will be a ride out either Saturday or the Sunday. Now for those that want to go to the Xmas Party and stay over you need to urgently get your cheques/cash to Mal, from today Wednesday the hotel will be putting the alocated rooms up for general release - basically anyone can book them so then once they've gone you're on you're own as far as accommodation.
The club trip next year to Faaker See will be taking the ferry Hull - Rotterdam as it will save approx. 1000miles over the trip. If you fancy going please let Barry know so that he can start looking at+-
Next year the Super Rally is going to be held in the UK more specifically in Lincoln on the late bank holiday in May. It follows the Wallace rally which has moved to a week earlier than normal. The Super Rally will cost you £65p if pre booked or £75 on the gate. If you fancy doing the Wallace and then riding onto the Super rally and making a week of it, Gunlaw (band) will be hosting a pitstop at
Squires Cafe, it will be free entry and free camping.
Orders are now being taken for the 2015 calendar, as you know if you've been to an event over the past 12mths chances are you'll be in the calendar. They're priced at £10, but we need a minimum order of 15 to make it cost effective - orders by the AGM please.
We even had three trophy presentations two from the Germany trip, first was for the club. Rainy City won best club turn out and the second was furthest travelled female won by Alicia.
The third trophy was won by Monty at the Northwest Custom show - Best American. Congratulations to all winners.

Also its free food and there'll be the members draw for those that have been to at least one club night - you could win.
On to the quiz and a familiar table won but a different face to collect the prize.

August Club Night
Well what a turn out ! I can't remember as many people at a club night for a good while at this time of year.
This meeting was a first for a while as well, no new members this time. As Barry is on holiday, a long with Kev & Ken being on a bike trip somewhere in the world our safety officer Mr Chris McDonald took the part of presenter - and a mighty good job he made of it too.
We, the committee were a bit spooked because of all the new members we've had recently I think you all turned up at once - we felt like strangers walking in, no, it is good to see new faces both former members returning and shiny brand new one's.
It's been a relatively quiet month so far, with the Shipley rally & Sherwood rally last weekend.
On my behalf Chris asked that if anyone has been to any rallies and got any photo's they can share please send them to me so I can add them to the website for all to see, please either email them
[email protected]
or put them on a disc and post them to
The Webmaster, Rainy City
Suite 1A, Warrington Business Park, Long Lane, Warrington, Cheshire, WA2 8TX.
The next issue of Hogwash was at club night for those that were there, for those that weren't yours will be in the post soon. In the mag you'll get a whole bunch of flyers, two of which you need to act on quickly!
First is the Christmas party, Mal needs to know numbers as soon as possible along with deposits, we must let the hotel know numbers soon so rooms can be booked.
Second is the Southport Chalet rally in Feb 15, if you fancy going get your booking forms to Mal asap, again its so the we can get the upgraded chalets that have free flowing electricty and not the metered ones.
Just to repeat from last month next we're looking at a club trip to Faaker See in 2015 so watch this space.
Jon read out an email mesage from Kev & Ken who are on a trip in Morocco riding their bikes around the place, for those that haven't heard Kev got knocked off his bike by an Italian tourist in his car. The Italian didn't stop until kev's bike that was sliding down the road slid into the back of him - with a glide embedded in the back of his car he wasn't going any further. Thankfully Kev is ok shook up I'm sure but ok, the front fender has been straightened out so he can still ride it.

June/July Club Night
Hi all well this update is combining both June and July as I wasn't around in June to go to club night - I was travelling Route 66, oh yeah what a trip.
By the time you read this two major events will have been and gone the first Rainy Daze & the trip to Germany.
First of all a big Rainy City thank you to all of those members good enough to spare their time on the Thursday, Friday and Sunday to help set up and then take down all the fencing staging etc. needed for RD11. Well we had it all the weather, probably the best band we've ever had and you all those that came down for the weekend or even the one night I think we all had a great time.
Due to a small incident with Heln banging her head on the Friday night of Rainy Daze we had to cancel our places on the Germany trip but what I've heard of it so far it was a great trip. I think most of those that went to Germany will have had the link to the photo's in a message from Rainer for those that didn't go here's the link
Well back to club night - yet again both June & July we had new members as I mentioned I wasn't at June club night so I can't put names to faces yet but here they are:
In June new members were
Gillian Cox
Kev & Sarah Dance
Stuart Nield
Phil Thompson
In July new members were
Mark Leah
Steve & Debbie Hustwit
Welcome to the best Harley club guys & gals !
Jon thanked everyone for their efforts and of course for turning up at Rainy Daze, he hasn't had chance to work on any of the figures yet but will be doing in the next couple of weeks and will report on the success of Rainy Daze 11 as soon as he can. Jon also asked if anyone had lost a couple of helmets at RD11 as we found them while packing up on Sunday..! How can you go to a bike rally, stay the weekend and leave without your helmets???? If they are yours or you know who's they are please get in touch.
Barry thanked all for Rainy Daze.
For those that didn't hear Sprok, one of the Caledonian members broke down on the way to RD11 from Scotland, found out that the free break down cover provided by his insurance company would only take him 10 miles from the point of his breakdown - Haydock ,was rescued by Barry & Dave Kennedy and brought safely to RD11 where he enjoyed himself for the rest of the weekend. He managed to get back home to return on Monday with a van and take his bike back home with him.
As an early warning for next year there maybe a club trip to Faaker See in Sept 2015 - watch this space.
Check the Diary page as there are some new flyers.

Rainy Daze tickets are on sale now . Book early - if last year was anything to go by you need to book early to get your world famous goody bag, we ran out last year.
Well this must be some kind of record! this is the fourth consecutive month that we have welcomed new members.
We have Howard & Phil ex members that realized the grass wasn't greener on the other side and have
re-joined, welcome back guys.
Well it's been a busy few weeks since the last club night we've had the Kulture Kruize which for those that went was a very enjoyable weekend. When the residents of the site that we were staying at heard the bikes some of them wouldn't come up to the club house on the Friday night...! However when word got round that we enjoyed ourselves and so did every one else Saturday night the club house was full.

There was a mistake on one of the flyers 'The Sausage Run' was advertised as the 17th when it is actually on the 7th - so please check your diary if you are planning to go.
As we are getting ever closer to Rainy Daze please make sure you have got your tickets, also please we need some volunteers for gate duty - don't worry you won't be on your own there will be a member of the committee there at all times.
Whilst on the subject o volunteers for a show Barry is still looking for help to marshal the bike show at the Americana so if you're a club member get your name down its a great weekend especially as you get in free if you help out.
For the trip to Germany make sure you have breakdown insurance cover - the RAC provide 3 days cover for around £34 if your insurance company don't provide it.
Well this is getting all to familiar with both the quiz and the raffle - just take a look at the winners again, lets start a sweep for the winners in June.

Everyone was reminded that it was the Kulture Kruize this weekend 21 bikes and 31 people. Meet at Knutsford services Southbound @9:30 for a 10am prompt leave.
For the I.A.M training only 2 people have booked in for the course, its a worth while course to do and it will get you discount on your insurance premium, so come on get yourself booked in.
The weekend of 10th -12th May is the Thunder Sprints, take a look at the flyer on the diary page. There is a ride out on the Sunday for this- meet at the MacDonalds in Hazel Grove call or text Barry if you're going as Monty is still laid up.
Kevin is talking to a Harley dealer about producing a kit of 'touring spare parts essentials' that are specific to your bike. If you go on a long trip you can take these essential spares with you (supplied by Harley dealer) If you use any parts you pay for them in whole if you don't then you return them and just pay 10% handling. If you like this idea let Kev know your thoughts.
This evening we had a very informative talk by our very own Road Captain Monty, the talk was aimed at those of us owning a twin cam engined Harley. Showing us how and where to check for cam chain tensioner wear. It was well presented and I'm sure opened our eyes to the problem.
Well done and thanks Monty.
This month there was no quiz but we still had the raffle.

March Club Night
What was I saying last month about it being the quickest month ever - I lied last month was the quickest.
First of all the committee would like to say a big thank you to all those that helped out at the Manchester bike show at Event City to those that lent their bikes and those that manned the stand. Even though we didn't win a stand prize this year it was a great success. One of the bikes did however win best Harley and that was Andy from Thunder road tours.

Its amazing what football can do especially when its a Manchester derby..! Well members of Rainy City we know where your loyalties are! We had 22 of the most loyal club members turn up for this meeting, and actually two of those weren't actually members. For those of you that were there at the beginning of Rainy City you may remember the name of Harry Round & Fazz
now members of Red Rose Chapter.
As Barry was not available this club night Kev made the most of a free audience and took to the front stand.
Have a look at the merchandise page for the new tour t-shirt, this year they are only going to be made to order so fill out the form and get it sent off.
We still have a few 2014 calendar's left, priced at £7 each they're a bargain.
Kev read out a thank you email from Paul Myers as you may know Paul & Vanessa have been out in the Gambia carrying out some charity work. Paul's message will be in the next issue of Hogwash.
There are some more events that we have flyers for such as the I.A.M course - get in touch with Adrian for more details this course you'll have to book your self via the I.A.M website.
There's a date for the 11th Makin Bacon rally hosted by the Hogs Bollocks at the beginning of June.
Check out the diary dates page - the calendar is getting full.
The quiz this month was won by a new team/group which made a refreshing change the team made up of Lesley, Nigel, Angela, Brian & Andy.

That has to be the quickest month ever, it seems like last week we were having the talk by Thunder Road Tours and here we are at the end of Feb.
Rainy Daze tickets are on sale now book early - if last year was anything to go by you need to book early to get your world famous goody bag, we ran out last year.
We have another new member - he probably felt guilty after winning a raffle prize last month so had to join, welcome Steve.

There wasn't much to report this month with February being a quiet month the main news were the events. The bike show held at Event City where we're having a stand we still need you to offer your bike for the stand please get in touch with Jon Dailey. Also for the show we need volunteers to man the stand only for a couple of hours to volunteer for stand duty please let Barry know.
While on the topic of volunteers Rainy City have been asked to look after the bike show section of the Americana - I guess we must be doing something right, I think CJ only ever asks us. Anyway we need marshals! Its a great show take a look in the gallery, best thing is if you work you get in free - its a first come first served basis and numbers are limited.
Germany calling - some good news you've paid too much! with the great bargaining power of our Barry he's managed to beat the price down so you'll be getting a small refund - how good it that!
The I.A.M training if your interested let Adrian know, when he has a proper idea of numbers ha can sort out dates.
Onto the quiz and yet again that man Bill Maley's table won I don't know if everyone else is scared of collecting the quiz prize or its just that Bill likes Bud' but its always Bill that's there to collect the beer.

Jan Club Night
Well we've had the first one of 2014! where did you all come from? I recon you're now bored being at home since Christmas. Nah, I recon it was the free food and the talk by Andy & Jenny.
What ever the reason it was great to see everyone.
Barry started the evening with a welcome and wishing everyone a new year!
We have four new members and two renewals, not a bad start to 2014.
Welcome to Rainy City to our newest members

Welcome to Rainy City to our newest members
For those going on the Kulture Kruise all the caravans have been booked so there's no going back now.
It just so happens that our friends at Manchester HOC will be down South the same weekend and have extended an invite to Rainy City members to join them on their ride to the Isle of Wight on the Sunday! If you fancy the trip the ferry is £36 return per bike.
So far for the trip to Germany we have one huge convoy - is that right, is it a convoy with bikes?
We have 31 people on 23 bikes going from Manchester, 9 people on 6 bikes from the midlands & 7 people on 4 bikes from the north east joining us at the ferry port.
So far for those that wanted a hotel the rooms are booked so expect an email from Barry wanting a deposit soon.
When Barry asks for the deposit can you please get your cheque to him asap making it payable to Barry Dunnett.
Once again we are having a stand at the Manchester bike show in March we need 12 bikes in total so if you'd like to show off your bike let Jon Dailey know asap, especially if its not black. Let Jon know by emailing him here
[email protected]
So far all those that have offered their bikes for the stand have black bikes, it would be nice to have a variety of colours there. You'll need to bring your bike to event city on the Friday and won't be able to take it away until the show closes at 5pm on the Sunday.
Adrian is organizing the I.A.M training and it will be taking place either in Crewe or Salford and will cost around £139.
There's a new event for us discovered by our new Road Captain Monty, its the Bikes & Blues down in Lincolnshire, it promises to be a good one.
Next was the raffle - and the winners are!

After the raffle we had the FREE FOOD that seemed to go down well.
There was no quiz this meeting because we'd arranged a talk by Andy & Jenny of Thunder Road Tours.
They arrange riding holidays around the beautiful roads of Andalucia , Spain. These holidays are so organized all you have to do is book your flight, they arrange pick up from the airport, the bike, fuel, food and everything else just take your riding gear and beer money.
Take a look at the link for more details, a fabulous place and a well organized holiday where you can relax and ride a Harley on open roads in the sun, best of all its only around 2.5 hrs on a plane not the 8 hours like it is to the States.
